Key Terms

Crude Birth Rate (CBR)- # of live births per 1000 people

Crude Death Rate (CDR)- # of deaths per 1000 people

Rate of Natural Increase- CBR-CDR

Total Fertility Rate- # of children a woman of child bearing age would have

Replacement Rate- 2.1

Demographic Transition Model- Theory of how population grows

Stages

Stage 1-

-People don't live long

-Illness notification and medications were not know

-People would have a lot of kids because the kids would likley not make it to adult hood

-Famion and illness spreads often, making people die

-In this stage there is a high CBR and a high CDR

Stage 2-

-People start learning about illness( oh that person looks or feels bad, I should not talk/make conatct with them)

-People start living longer, decreasing the CDR, and more kids are starting to surviving to adult hood

- People are understanding irrigation and have more food, decreasing famion

Stage 3-

- The poulation goes up but the CBR and BDR goes down

-People are not having as many kids because: they all live to adult hood, they cost money, and women are starting to work so they do not have time

- In this stage there may be "booms" when the is and increase of population and CBR

- Medicine and some tecnology is introduced

Stage 4-

- Population is stable

-People live longer due to tecnology and medicine

China and Overpoulation

China has around 1..3 BILLON people living on it.  They have a replacment rate of 2.8 where the replacement rate should be 2.1.  This increases the population.  I think that they are in a stage 2 or 3.

China Graphs

Above are graphs displaying the poulation of china from 1950 to 2050.  As you can see it will be nearly 5 times the population in only 100 years.
